I fully acknowledge that Adrastus is a manga and anime based comic. I mean, it’s based on 70’s giant super-robot anime, how can I say it’s really anything else, right? But I also set down a rule for myself when I started this that I was going to steer away from some of the anime and manga “tropes” that are over-used in some places. Things such as sweatdrops, cross veins, and going chibi are all things that I’ve stayed away from while doing this comic just because they seemed like shortcuts that didn’t need to be used to convey the type of story that I want to tell.

That being said, I’m not sure that faces inside of the speech balloons is an anime thing or if they do it a lot in American comic books too. It seemed as though this page needed it though. I mean, I’m sure that without the faces you’d be able to figure out who was talking, especially when the second bit of dialog has “Daddy” in it, and who aside from Sarah has called anyone that this entire time, right? And as you can see by the last line on this page, I stopped doing the faces after the initial set-up and I don’t go back to it for the entirety of this conversation.

So what do you all think? Could I have left the little floating heads off and it still would have been apparent who was speaking? Or would I have had to rewrite some of the lines to make the voice a little clearer? Let me know what you think in the comments!
