My dislike of coloring I think his become Legendary for some reason. It seems that everyone knows I dread to color, because I feel like I’m not good at it at all. To the point where I had someone else color this cover because I couldn’t deal with it. I still feel like I have a lot to learn, but I have to admit that since Smith Micro came out with Manga Studio 5 and gave me an advance copy of it to play with, I have been a coloring mad-woman. You see, I’ve always wanted to get a certain LOOK to my coloring that I haven’t been able to achieve until now, with this program. The watercolor tools are just amazing, and they’re what I used to get the look of this cover.

So really, my view has changed a lot about coloring my work lately. I’ve come to realize that it’s not the actual coloring that I hated, but in fact the tools that I was trying to color with! In fact, if you watch me over on Deviant Art you’ll find that I’ve been doing a lot of color work lately. I even wrote a coloring tutorial that is posted in the blog over on DynamiteCandy.com!

So I’m finally learning to embrace color and to love it. (Sorry, no thoughts yet on doing the comic in color.) Which brings me to a thought for today! What have you learned to love about what you do? Was there ever something you thought that you hated but it turned out you just hadn’t perfected your process or that you didn’t have the right tools to do it with? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
