So I know I had talked last week or so about having very few pages in the buffer and, since last week was so very stressful and busy, possibly having to go on a small hiatus until I can get some more pages done, and that this page would be a good spot to do that. Well, of course, I hardly had any time to draw last week so I have the page after this inked and that’s it, which means I need to not post new pages.

How long will this little hiatus last? That’s a good question. The truth is, I’m not sure. I have two more scenes to draw in this chapter and I’ll probably wait to start posting again until I have those pages done.

I feel like I owe my readers an apology about the apparent “laziness” I have exhibited this chapter, with the photo backgrounds. They were not well received in the comments and they won’t be coming back. I’m very sorry if this gave anyone the impression that “I don’t care” or “I’m not trying” or “I’m running from drawing the backgrounds because they make me uncomfortable.”

The truth is this- writing the book last year really drained me. It took forever for me to even get back to where I wanted to draw again, much less be able to sit down and do 5+ color comic pages a week. But I said the comic was coming back in January and I didn’t want to break that promise. Because the first thing we tell all webcomic creators is “Don’t ever, EVER miss an update or break a promise to your readers because you will be flayed alive and displayed on the town square as a failure.” So, when I started posting Adrastus again back in January, I did not have the size of buffer that I could be comfortable with. And, trying to keep up with my update schedule made me panic and try an experiment with some of the more complicated establishing shots to see if I could make it work.

Obviously, it doesn’t work. Experiment over. But that means now I must take some time to work a buffer back up that will afford me the extra breathing room I need to not have to rush through pages.
